Hey y’all! Today I’m sharing my Mom’s favorite sugar cookie recipe. She has made these cookies for many of our family gatherings and not only do they taste delicious but the best thing is how easy the dough is to work with. She always mentions that and it really is true! We had some family fun today and let the kids decorate the cookies with all the icing and sprinkles. Memory making at it’s finest. 😉
Mom's Sugar Cookie Recipe
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups of butter softened
2 2/3 cups white sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
5 cups of flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
Instructions
Start by creaming the butter adding sugar until smooth. Then beat in eggs and vanilla.
Then add flour, baking powder, and salt.
Chill at least 1 hour.
Divide cookie dough in softball-size portions and, using a rolling pin, roll cookie dough flat (about 1/4 inch thick). Edges can be re-worked to minimize waste.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Space cookies one inch apart on greased cookie sheet.
Bake 3 – 5 minutes.
Remove from oven as soon as you see edges browning and remove from tray quickly so they do not stick.
Allow to completely cool before adding icing and decorating. If the cookies are warm, the icing will melt.
These cookies are so yummy! I hope you and your family will give it a try this Christmas season. Take a look at the fun we had decorating this year.
Decorating Fun
It’s a family Christmas season tradition for us to decorate Christmas cookies. You can see all the fun in these pictures.
If you couldn’t tell from the picture, Sawyer loves this tradition.
And when all the decorating is done, we EAT!
Check out our other family recipes in the What’s for Dinner category on my blog. We even have a different cookie recipe that many have tried and loved!
