Easy Lasagna Recipe: Family Favorite

I’m excited to share one of our favorite family dinners with y’all.  This easy lasagna recipe is perfect for even someone that is not a fan of cooking, like me!  I grew up with my mom making homemade lasagna so a lot of this recipe is hers, but I have changed some things over the years to fit our family.  For example, my mom wouldn’t dare use oven ready noodles, but they make my life so much easier!  Feel free to change ingredients to fit your family.  I never follow exact rules when cooking and it usually turns out pretty good.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef (1 pound mild sausage works great too) – not in picture
  • 2 jars pasta sauce
  • 2 cans tomato sauce
  • Italian seasoning
  • Garlic Powder
  • Ricotta Cheese
  • Mozzarella Cheese
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 box oven ready lasagna
  • 13 x 9 baking dish (glass preferred)

Directions:

  1. Brown meat in frying pan and add a dash of garlic powder and italian seaoning.  I highly recommend using this tool for the meat.
  2. Once meat is browned, add pasta sauce and tomato sauce.
  3. Add more garlic powder and italian seasoning to taste.  Simmer on low for 30 minutes.
  4. Begin building your lasagna using a 13 x 9 baking dish (I recommend this glass baking dish
  5. Line bottom of baking dish with pasta sauce mixture.
  6. Begin layering lasagna noodles leaving space between each for growth while baking.
  7. Add another layer of pasta sauce mixture, this time adding a layer of ricotta cheese (amount of ricotta cheese may vary depending on your liking)
  8. Add another layer of lasagna noodles and top with mozzarella cheese.
  9. Add another layer of lasagna noodles and pasta sauce and ricotta cheese mixture.
  10. Add another layer of lasagna noodles and mozzarella cheese.  This is your top layer so I also sprinkle on parmesan cheese.
  11. Cover with foil
  12. Bake at 375 degrees for 50 minutes or until bubbling throughout (this is why a glass baking dish is helpful)
  13. Remove from oven and allow to set for 5-10 minutes.  This helps the lasagna stay together during serving.

I usually serve this with a tossed salad and either fresh bread or breadsticks.  If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments.

My picky 3 year old opts for fruits and veggies over my lasagna.

Buon Appetito!

I love to cook, but have yet to find a lasagna recipe that isn’t a fail. I cannot figure out what I’m doing wrong. Looking forward to trying your family recipe. Thanks for sharing! P.S. I love that your littlest loves fruits and veggies more than pasta. So sweet! 😊

I bought all the ingredients to make this weekend, but with ‘impossible’ meat as I’m a vegetarian! Thank you for sharing! One question I do have is how much Italian seasoning should be added into 1lb of beef?

    Thank you!
